Mary Riley received her doctorate in cultural anthropology from Tulane University and her law degree from Northern Illinois University. She is a co-investigator with the UIC-based International Cooperative Biodiversity Group (ICBG) and is a visiting senior research specialist at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Program for Collaborative Research in the Pharmaceutical Sciences (PCRPS). In addition, she is an attorney with Merritt, Flebotte, Wilson, Webb & Caruso, PLLC, in Columbia, South Carolina. She edited the volume Indigenous Intellectual Property Rights: Legal Obstacles and Innovative Solutions (Altamira Press).
