This is an excellent and comprehensive web guide to IP in the field of biotechnology. The site has lots of useful and current information. Although not all resources are instantly accessible without registration, many are. This site contains current information on various changes in IP laws, interpretation of these laws, and litigation outcomes related to IP disputes in a selection of jurisdictions. The articles are written by well-respected IP professionals worldwide. The “International Briefings” link, which takes you to country-specific articles, is particularly useful.

United States National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Technology Transfer

The NIH Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is working to address global health challenges by facilitating the transfer of technologies to people around the world. With many years of intellectual property management experience, OTT is ideally positioned to move technologies from the public sector to private industry in the U.S. and abroad. To date, over 300 technologies have been licensed to foreign companies. Approximately 200 products utilizing NIH technologies have been commercially marketed through various domestic and international public-private partnerships.

  • Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Resources

    The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) makes it possible to seek patent protection for an invention simultaneously in each of a large number of countries by filing an "international" patent application. Such an application may be filed by anyone who is a national or resident of a Contracting State to the PCT, which was concluded in 1970 and is administered by WIPO.

    The International Patent Classification (IPC) is a hierarchical system in which the whole area of technology is divided into a range of sections, classes, subclasses and groups.   • Madrid System for International Registration of Trademarks

    The Madrid system for the international registration of marks (the Madrid system) established in 1891 functions under the Madrid Agreement (1891), and the Madrid Protocol (1989). It is administered by the International Bureau of WIPO located in Geneva, Switzerland.   • Lisbon System for the International Registration of Appellations of Origin

    The Lisbon system has been established under the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration of 1958 in order to facilitate the international protection of appellations of origin. It is administered by the International Bureau of WIPO. This site includes an overview and general information, members of the system, legal texts, and other resources on geographic origin.
